• World Beer Market grows +0.5% in 2017: reverses two successive years of decline
• Return to low growth also forecast for 2018: +1.7%
• Updated Top 10 Brewers table announced

Beer market specialists Plato Logic are currently projecting low growth for the World Beer Market in 2018. After 2015 and 2016 saw the first annual declines in world beer consumption for over 30 years, there was a modest recovery in 2017, with Plato Logic’s latest forecast being for further +1.7% growth in 2018.

China, the world’s largest beer market by volume, began to stabilise in 2017 and is expected to record low growth in 2018. Ian Pressnell, Director of Plato Logic, commented: “The 2017 result was again influenced by China, however all other markets grew by +1.1%”.

The following table summarises Plato Logic’s projected volume growth by region for the World beer market in 2018:

Plato Logic’s latest projections also see growth accelerating to around +2% in 2019 and 2020, assuming some further modest recovery in China. Mexico is poised to overtake Germany to become the fourth largest beer market by volume in 2019, or possibly even this year.
