15/12/2017 - World Beer December 2017

Media Release

from Plato Logic Limited, December 15th 2017

  • World Beer Market Growth expected to resume in 2018

With 2017 now expected to show marginal growth (latest forecast +0.7%), world beer consumption is expected to regain momentum in 2018.

Ian Pressnell, Director of Plato Logic, commented: “Our latest projection for 2018 is for +2.2% growth, taking the market up to 1977 million hectolitres and it is quite possible that all of the Top 6 beer markets may be in growth next year”.

Signs of stability in China, following 2 years of decline, are a positive feature for the top-line figure looking ahead to 2018. Improved economic prospects for the US and Brazil should have a positive impact on these beer markets. Russia appears to be absorbing the PET ban and will host the FIFA World Cup. Add to this the prospect of a recovery scenario in India, continued progress in many markets in the Asia/Pacific region and continuing solid growth prospects across Africa, and there is a reasonable outlook for higher growth in 2018.
