Beer Market Data from Beer Market Specialists. Sounds Logical.
Media Release
from Plato Logic Limited, May 8th 2017
According to latest figures released by beer market specialists Plato Logic, the World Beer Market declined by -0.6% in 2016 (provisional). Ian Pressnell, Director of Plato Logic, commented: “The world’s 6 biggest beer markets, accounting for over 55% of global beer consumption, fell by a combined -2.1% in 2016. However, the rest of the world grew by +1.1%.”
Plato Logic’s latest projections see a return to low growth of around +1.3% in 2017, assuming some modest recovery in China.
Plato Logic have also announced an updated Top 10 World Brewers league table, based pro forma 2016 volumes (latest estimates).

Notes to chart: 2016 volumes adjusted pro forma for A-B InBev / SABMiller acquisition and related disposals (inc. to MCBC and Asahi). Heineken and Kirin adjusted pro forma 2016 for transfer of Brazil operations. Some deals may be pending regulatory approval.
The Budweiser brand achieved a major landmark in 2016, replacing the Heineken brand’s position as ‘leading international beer brand’, based Plato Logic’s metric of ‘non-domestic’ volumes. Although the figures are very close and the market mix is quite different, Heineken has held this position for at least the last 30 years, so this would be a major milestone in the global beer industry.
